X-HUB TOKYO is the support platform established in October of last year to help Japanese startups expand overseas. Now, it’s organizing a Demo Day gathering entrepreneurs who are challenging themselves on the global stage, as well as the people helping build startup ecosystems around the world.

X-HUB TOKYO is an overseas expansion support project for Tokyo startups. The Demo Day will include pitches by past participating companies of the X-HUB program, as well as appearances by 3 overseas VCs that have joined the US, Europe, and Asia expansion support courses as mentors. They will be reflecting back on the program and talking about ways for Japanese startups to win around the world. Demo Day will be held in collaboration with SLUSH TOKYO (February 22-23). SLUSH TOKYO is the brainchild of Taizo Son, the serial entrepreneur and investor who will also serve as the keynote speaker at the event, encouraging other entrepreneurs to challenge themselves on the global stage.

Exhibition booths by past participating companies will be set up at the event. If you’re interested in networking with a large number of entrepreneurs hoping to expand overseas, then this event is definitely for you.

Keynote Speaker


■ Taizo Son, CEO of Mistletoe
Taizo is a serial entrepreneur with extensive experience in investing and incubating IT related venture companies in Asia. He is the Founder of Mistletoe Inc., as well as board member and advisor to various IT companies around the globe.

He founded Gungho Online which is one of the most successful online gaming companies in Japan in 2002, which had its IPO in 2005. With a vision to create Silicon Valley-like venture eco-system in East Asia by year 2030, Taizo founded MOVIDA JAPAN in 2009. Then he founded Mistletoe, Inc. in 2013 in order to commence comprehensive entrepreneurs support and startup ecosystem development activities. He strongly believes the World could be transformed into better place by nurturing entrepreneurs which would lead the creation of next generation.

■ Rouven Dresselhaus
Rouven Dresselhaus is co-founder and managing partner of Cavalry Ventures.
At Cavalry, he supports ambitious entrepreneurs in building category winning businesses. Coming in as first investor in any company, Rouven acts as an agile and active wingman for his companies in many matters.

Cavalry’s founding team invested in more than 80 companies of which nine exited (two IPOs) and created €10bn+ in shareholder value. Rouven privately invested in more than 35 startups worldwide, such as Simplesurance and Tradeshift.


■ Jeffrey Paine
Managing Partner of Golden Gate Ventures
Jeffrey Paine is the founding partner of Golden Gate Ventures, an early stage technology incubator based in Singapore. Jeff started and manages the Founder Institute in Singapore where he is currently overseeing its expansion in Southeast Asia. Since 2010 the Founder Institute in Singapore has graduated over 80 companies.


■ Steve Goldberg
Operating Partner of Venrock
Steve joined Venrock in 2009 after having been CEO of several early stage companies including DataRunway, Vidient, Arcwave and CoWave Networks. Prior to that, he was Vice President of Research and Development at Nokia Internet Communications and Vice President and General Manager of the Wireless Communications Division at Cylink Corporation. Steve also held senior management and engineering positions at Trimble Navigation and Hewlett Packard. At Venrock, Steve focuses on investments in connectivity, M2M/Internet of Things, robotics and embedded systems. He currently sits on the Board of Directors of Lucid, FutureDial and Red Seal. Previous board seats include Canesta (Acq by Microsoft), Kineto Wireless (Acq by Taqua), Newport Media (Acq by Atmel), Teranetics (Acq by PLX Technology), and Quantenna Communications.
Steve received his B.S. and M.S. in Electrical Engineering from Washington University and his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the University of California, Santa Barbara.
