The X-HUB TOKYO project, sponsored by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government, aims to support Tokyo-based startups in their international endeavors and to revitalize the city's economy through collaboration with globally active overseas startups.

The #5 Overseas Development Seminar will focus on the necessity and challenges of global open innovation between startups and large companies. In addition, the seminar will dive into what businesses with a potential to create a social impact are, based on actual examples of collaboration.

We welcome not only startups, but also supporters and institutions to join us in this session!

Takashi Uehara
Executive Vice President SOMPO Light Vortex, Inc.

Takashi Uehara is Executive Vice President at SOMPO Light Vortex, Inc. and Chief Evangelist at SOMPO Digital Lab in SOMPO Holdings, Inc. from 2021, who is challenging to create new businesses to provide new user experiences. Prior to joining SOMPO, Takashi worked in MUFG, the biggest bank in Japan as corporate business strategist and serial intrepreneur. Takashi launched two startups and led them as top management for 5 years, Japan Electronic Monetary Claim Organization (JEMCO) and Japan Digital Design (JDD). JEMCO has scaled as one of financial platforms for large corporations and contributed to over $100 million profits. JDD has grown as the unique diverse organization including engineers, designers and data scientists from 0 to 100 members, which gave new perspectives and technologies to MUFG.

Izuru Watanabe
NTT DATA Corporation, Digital Strategy, Global Strategy Office, Corporate Management Division General Manager

Izuru Watanabe joined NTT DATA in 2004 and has been involved in the development of new services using advanced technologies such as distributed computing, metadata and content delivery, and robotics.
In 2017, he joined NTT DATA’s open innovation initiative, where he leads activities aimed at creating new businesses that are a win-win-win for NTT Data, client companies, and startups.
From 2019, in addition to open innovation activities, he will expand the scope of NTT DATA’s activities to include DX promotion such as digital strategy study, human resource development, and organizational development.
He is also making use of his experience to promote agile development and service design.

Kazuhiro DOI

Nissan Motor Co., Ltd

Kazuhiro Doi joined Nissan Motor after graduating the master’s program at the department of Instrumentation Engineering, Graduate School of Engineering, Keio University in 1985.

After 20 years of experiences at research and advanced engineering departments including two years experience at Penn State, he became General Manager for Technology Planning Department in 2005, where he managed the development of technology strategy that is the basis for competitive advantage today. Nissan’s advanced technologies were communicated by Technology Marketing Department he newly established in 2007. He also became a Segment Chief Product Specialist for Product Planning Department where he contributed to the launch of NISSAN compact segment, MICRA, NOTE, SUNNY etc.

In April 2012, he became Research Director for Renault. In April 2015, he was appointed as Vice President and Alliance Global Director for the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance.
In August 2020, he was appointed as Corporate Vice President to direct the research on future strategic fields, “Beyond Mobility” in Nissan.

In a career spanning more than 30 years for Nissan and Renault, he has been at the forefront of research and development for the automotive driving and electrification.
